Official Tribal Announcement

Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Band

To All Tribal Members,

We hope this announcement finds you well. Our tribe continues to move forward in many ways, and we are encouraged by the progress we are making together.

Many of our members have asked about the status of federal recognition. While we do not wish to sound repetitive, we must emphasize that there are still hurdles to overcome. Dealing with government agencies has become more difficult than ever, but we remain committed to navigating these challenges with persistence and unity.

We pray that in the near future circumstances will stabilize, allowing us to resume normal communication with the proper agencies involved in the recognition process. As you are aware, many government offices have faced staff reductions, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs has not been exempt from these changes.

Chief Len Wiggins has been diligently making daily phone calls to track these developments, stay informed of changes in personnel, and remain in contact with our support groups. His efforts help ensure that when the process resumes, we will be prepared to move forward as smoothly as possible.

Together, we remain steadfast in our commitment to federal recognition and to preserving the culture, heritage, and future of the Louisiana Attakapas Indians.

In Unity and Respect,

Chief Jed Duhon
